To continue my series of celebrating mums in business, today I want to celebrate Natalia. Natalia is a current client of mine, and we will be launching her newly designed website very soon. Natalia runs a studio from her home in Heywood, and takes photos of babies, children and families, as well as offering maternity sessions. Her photos are so beautiful, and you will be able to see a great portfolio when the site is completed.

When I think about photography I think about memories. The only thing that will be left after us. This is what helped me to decide that I want to capture those memories for other people. In a beautiful and timeless way.

My love for photography actually started when I was around ten and our family got a cheap compact camera. It became my precious treasure. I didn’t have many photos from my early childhood so being able to have them now sparked a huge interest. I was photographing everything around me, nature, animals and members of my family. I felt a great satisfaction looking back at them. The world around me could be preserved, how magical?!

I did forget about photography for a while as I grew up. I moved to the UK when I was eighteen and sadly life changed my priorities.

Skip to the future, I became a wife when I was 24 and the year after I was already a mum to a little cheeky boy. This was a time when I reconnected with photography, with my son as my model.

I had never known what I wanted to do with my life so it was at this point I decided that I wanted to make photography my future career. So I learned about professional photography techniques, attended workshops and practiced a lot on friends and family.

In 2017 it was time to start. I created my home studio, registered as a business and now I’m creating memories for my clients!

Continuing my celebration of Mums in Business, and to coincide with Mother’s Day which is coming up this weekend, here’s another blog about a fab lady I know who has her own business “Balloons by Design”. I’ve known her for around a year now, and if you check out her social media pages and website you’ll see how talented she is! Her balloon designs are awesome!

Here’s why she has her own business in her own words...

“Dream a little dream…. that’s all I did for years. I worked for a lovely company, had a regular wage going into my bank and was secure in the knowledge that my job was secure. The loves of my life were 8 and 4 … I can’t quite believe that when I think back now. They are only 11 and 8 now but gosh it seems a lifetime ago.

Why did I want to change it all? What made me think I could make a go of a dream and build a business?

Why is easy… I wanted something for me. A passion, and “I did that!” So I went on numerous courses and learnt the art of balloon decorating and thus, my 3rd baby was born… Balloons by Design.

Why did I think I could do it…? I didn’t. I still wobble. I still have sleepless nights wondering if I’ve ordered the right stock, if I have enough money coming in to pay for it all, if my designs are good enough… etc etc. but the enjoyment I get everyday in the knowledge that I am doing something I love and the satisfaction when I have helped somebody’s special occasion look beautiful… it’s a wonderful feeling.

They say do what you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.

Is it easy? Is it flips! Is it lonely sometimes? Yes. Do I feel like I am letting my family down sometimes? Absolutely, but I’ve learnt over the past couple of years not to beat myself up and to try to maintain a balancing act. I can’t always be there, but what mum can?

We all try to be the SuperMum we think our kids want us to be but in reality they just need love, care, some attention and bedtime stories… just like your own business (apart from the bedtime stories bit).
